Why Firefox is Blocked Oct 10, 10:02

Blocking ads may or may not be legal, at least that’s according to what I’ve read so far on the subject. The argument is that by blocking the ads you’re infringing upon the site owners right… right to what exactly? Clog my viewing space up with fart buttons and creepy talking emoticons? What about my rights as a viewer, surely I have the right to be able to go to a website and not have to listen to and gaze at annoying ads. Unfortunately according to Why Firefox is Blocked I don’t have the right to decide what I want to see.

Numerous web sites exist in order to provide quality content in exchange for displaying ads. Accessing the content while blocking the ads, therefore would be no less than stealing. Millions of hard working people are being robbed of their time and effort by this type of software.

No not really, the sort of people who use things like Adblock are doing so because they just don’t care. Even if you were to take away Adblock we wouldn’t click on your ads or provide you with any additional funds because quite frankly we don’t want to. Of course, I’m only speaking for myself here, but I assume that the majority of Adblock users feel the same way otherwise they wouldn’t be blocking ads. So if I am not going to click your ad and I can remove it from my viewing space, why not? Why must I suffer in the hopes that you profit from it? Why, because people are greedy and willing to do anything for money (including endorsing products they should disagree with on an intelligent level). This is nothing more than e-prostitution and we, the visitors, are nothing more than unwilling johns. We are expected to click and then click some more so that someone we don’t know has an additional penny or two in his bank account. Sorry if my heart isn’t bleeding enough for you.

Legal issues aside am I the only one who believes blocking off Firefox isn’t the solution? Sure blocking of IE would be great, hell I’d love to block of IE completely and thumb my nose at all the poor suckers trying to view my awesomeness (but they can’t ‘cause they’re using IE, HAH!). Fortunately the more I thought about it the more I realised that not every IE user is a bad person. Some of them, poor souls, are using IE against their will and they should be pitied and hugged, not blocked.

I attempted to access JackLewis.net through IE 7, according to the error text that briefly flashed across my screen I am using adblocking software. So I turned off my virus protection on the off chance that it was that, but I still hit a roadblock. I managed to view it for a few seconds using Opera, but I was informed after scrolling down, down and then down some more on his main page that JavaScript needed to be enabled to view this site. Great, not only can I not access this site in my browser of choice, but the two recommended browsers do not work! After ensuring that JavaScript was in fact enabled I got the main page to show up sans text, a few more refreshes down the road and I was presented with the same error I got in IE in spite of the fact I use no adblocking software (and disabling my antivirus did nothing in both instances).

Congratulations Mr. Carlton, you have successfully managed to block me in every browser I have installed in spite of the fact that I was assured that I could use Internet Explorer, Opera or Netscape to view the website. I have no adblocking software installed anywhere on my computer, as of right now I am running AIM, my internet connection and antivirus software in the taskbar. I attempted to access the website through Firefox (I was redirected to Why Firefox is Blocked), Internet Explorer 7 (I was told that my access to the site was blocked due to adblocking software being detected on my machine), Safari (same story as IE) and informed that Opera had JavaScript was disabled (it wasn’t). I took a screenshot of the error console in Opera which you can view here, the problem is that his ads aren’t working properly!

So kudos to you Mr. Carlton, you’ve managed to block me from every browser I have installed and I daresay even the ones that I don’t have installed. Your site spews out false errors and quite frankly I find you to be a despicable, money-grubbing louse. I am no more a criminal for choosing not to pollute my viewing space with ads than you are when you get up during commercial breaks to get a drink or use the bathroom (and I’m sure you do, everyone does).

Whew, for a second there I thought Firefox was being blocked all over the web.

To sum it up: idiocy at its finest.

Ads bother me, but I don’t block them. I wonder the percentage of Firefox users who don’t block ads and would otherwise see them on his site, that he is missing out on. I’m not going to switch browsers to see his advertisements!

I agree with you; Internet users should have control over what is displayed on their screen.

What a moron. I hate that. Why should we let them choose what we see. I so want to curse those morons right now.

You’re not really missing much on his site at all. It takes about 25+ seconds for his site to load, and it’s essentially riddled with ads. It’s obvious his source of being so anti-adblocking. He’s losing on potential idiots to click on his ads to help him earn money.

I highly doubt he’d care about this issue if he didn’t have 10+ ads rotating throughout his shitacular website. It’s horribly designed, takes forever to load, is garbage, he’s a jesus freak, and well, the fact that he’s so adament that you not making him money is a crime… Fuck his shitty site. He’s just a money hungry retard that obviously can’t make enough with his real job, so he’s trying to create a cause worthy. No doubt a gimmick for traffic. Fucking assholes :3

I can’t access the website either. Oh well! The whole concept is hilarious.

I find it quite funny…all he’s doing is turning away visitors. I’m don’t want to switch to IE, because I hate it. So he’ll have to deal with it.
I must admit though, that being curious me, I went against my word and checked his site in IE. It froze my computer up. Enough said.

Well fuck you Becky for beating me to the party. :P I’ll be linking you in my own article about this rubbish, though. :)

Lawl. Why does this seem like a step backwards from an internet that is becoming more accessible and less reliant on splash pages? I really hope some clever bugger comes up with an ad blocker hack to peeve them.

I agree with Mari. It will only make him lose visitors in the end.

It crashed my version of IE7 as well, but since I have multi IE installed I also tried it with IE6 which apparently works fine… though the javascript errors are still present.

So bottom line: talented webmaster my arse.

Strange. I get the same message in Firefox but it works “fine” in Internet Explorer. But there are a lot of JavaScript errors and it nearly crashed my browser. Yay. People like that clearly want to earn money too badly.

I had to open up that site in Safari because I use FireFox and, like you, got redirected to whyfirefoxisblocked.com. No wonder he has to block FireFox – no one in their right mind would choose to view that site as it is without blocking ads if they could. I didn’t manage to read a word of the site – I was too distracted by the banners on either side of the top of the page, those annoying little flashing colours in the right corner, and the sidebar filled almost completely with adverts. I’ve seen bigger, more distracting ads in sidebars before, but really, is that flashing box that takes up half the page when you put your mouse over it totally necessary? Why aren’t the text links good enough?
