What bugs you about your blogging platform? Oct 1, 02:58
This is a bitchslap post for Brent because someone has to debunk his crackpot theory that Expression Engine is better than Textpattern (of course, I’m completely ignoring personal preference, logic and niceties).
- When I used Expression Engine the Turks managed to hack me. Of course, there’s the niggling little doubt that any holes that are bad have been fixed by now (it’s been more than a year), but I prefer to err on the side of caution. This could also apply to Wordpress and Cutenews since the Turks never hacked me when I used them, but Cutenews is a piece of crap used by people who can’t/won’t use something, anything, better and Wordpress is… Wordpress.
- Textpattern is completely 100% free! And Open Source!! What’s not to love?
- I told you to use it [Textpattern].
Brent did, however grudgingly I may admit it, bring up a valid point: Textpattern’s template system can be very confusing to a new user, particularly one still reeling from the effects of what I call “Wordpressitis”, a horrible wasting disease that causes mass amounts of frustration, depression and general gloom and doom (in between bouts of asking anyone who will listen why anyone would want to use the bloated piece of crap that is Wordpress). Can you tell I hate Wordpress? Sure it’s Open Source, like Textpattern, and it’s got many of the same features, but fact is I still get emails from my wordpress.com blog asking me to moderate spam comments, when was the last time I got spam on Textpattern? Not since January so hah!
So this is my question: Whatever you’re using, be it Textpattern, Wordpress or even the dreaded Cutenews monster, what limitations frustrate you the most? What’s the one thing you’ve never been able to/had to take some time to understand?
