Waks Ask and Answer - Part 3 Success!
I got an email from the owner of allstarfreak.org in response to my linking them on my Waks entry, they were polite and whilst s/he could have used a spellchecker it was overall a nice thing to know that the owner of allstarfreak.org decided to remove the shoddy script from their website (although in the future I should contact people I decide to link on such entries, just to be polite1). So that makes it 2 down, eleventy billion to go.
But what really made my day, other than my own ED page, were two comments left by an anonymous individual which you can read here and here.
The argument is that since it is not my script I have no business linking anyone’s sites or telling them that they should probably take it down. The latter being the most popular argument in regards to all this to date (I have been informed several times that if I wish to link someone else’s website I need to contact them first. Why? To obtain their permission, of course! And then, and only then, can I link them in an entry on my website).
Has everyone gone insane? Time was when I was linked elsewhere I looked at it as a way to gain a few extra hits, regardless of whether it was under a negative or positive light. The fact that the entry in question for these people was not overly negative, it merely highlighted that they were redistributing an insecure script and that perhaps they should maybe stop. Sure I didn’t manage to get Dan of Fark Oath (Jem managed to do it quite well), but I’d count any of these people removing it as a success.
1 Like hell I will!
I suggest you try an experiment: blog about a site you dislike (for some reason or another) but say only positive things about it (no sarcasm). See what they answer to it. If they get angry and annoyed and start pelting you with rotten tomatoes then I guess there might be some sort of truth to asking permission to linking.
By the way, the link to allstarfreak is incorrect (you forgot the http), also is it a coincidence that s/he decided to take his/her site down right now? Or was it already down when s/he e-mailed you?
I think its rude of you to pick on people. And he has a name Jordan stop saying the owner or s/he. Its impolite to call someone that has a name not by their name. And I don’t see you with creative talent making amazing graphics and layouts. So please be nice and keep your mouth shut.
I didn’t say you insulted me, your not cikick, therefore you wouldn’t of been able to tell i was dyslexic. i was just trying to get somthing cleared up. also as my other online friends/ website vistors never point stuff out becaue its a disablitly, but maybe im not up to your standards of ‘perfect writing’ :P
I hope you understand.
I love eDrama. ;)

@Becky I have an idea regarding that… I’d like to put into action. But it’ll need time (mostly because I’m lazy): still just as a teaser it’s involve bashing and links to “weborexic” or otherwise annoying sites evil grin I really should do that. Pity having a life is so hard.
I thought you were supose to contact those people you decide to link on entries? It’s cool though, I don’t mind.
I’m taking it down too so you could call me a success if you want =/. But I just took it down because I’ve changed my site’s use all together.
I was going to get around to it eventually but I supose people like you make me decide to do it right now so we can be left alone.
Hope all is well :)

Hi I'm Becky, often referred to as The Knitting Hillbilly and Pussybear, owner of this site and general nuisance. I'm a knitter, serial complainer, known whistle blower and I run the ever popular
Here’s my view: if it’s on the internet, it’s fair game. Yeah, I know about copyright in regards to images, articles, etc., but if you’re going to put something on the internet, prepare for it to be stolen. And in regards to linking to a website, there is no copyright infringement involved. And like you said, it’s only going to get that site more hits. It’s like celebrities in tabloids. Fair game.
