Waks Ask and Answer - Part 2 Dain Jul 16, 20:20
Dain has taken Waks down and posted an apology to me. Can we all have a big w00t w00t right now for Dain? Dain, if you would like something to link to in place of Waks for your visitors to use I’d recommend Amelie’s script PHPAskIt, you can read about more unsafe scripts (and their equivalents) here: Unsafe Scripts and Their Safe Equivalents
Whilst checking out my referral links on Reinvigorate I came across a site that I linked in my last post Waks Ask and Answer. I followed the link and came across an interesting message that was left by the site owner on his downloads page, since it’s very lulzy I decided to share it with you.
I was recently brought to the attention of a blog asking why people use waks ask and answer (in a very rude way and by promoting this site as one of those “re-distributers” and it seems that alot of the blog-readers agree:
“Julie, where did you find THOSE people? They are in need of some serious lessons!”
so my answer to re-distributing it is that I have been asked to give it to the people who want it.
I don’t use it but I do plan on using it when I have the time to incorporate it into wordpress in such a way that won’t be in-secure, but for the time being, it would be nice if you could ASK before linking me on a site that is completely irrelevant to mine. and I would appreciate it if you removed my link.
Candyfreak – Downloads
My blog is hardly rude, I asked a legitimate question of everyone I linked and you chose to not answer it on my blog (and the answer you gave on your downloads page was pretty lame, but we’ll get to that in a minute). In most cases I would understand why the blog owner was pissy, in this case I don’t really get it. I didn’t call anyone a rampaging retard, I didn’t bust a gut laughing at them publicly. So why the ‘tude?
Just because someone asks you for it is no excuse to continue redistributing it. It is an unsafe script and unless you plan on actually fixing it yourself (which would probably require quite a bit of work, maybe even rewriting the whole thing which would be a rather large undertaking for someone who can readily access PHPAskIt which was written by the lovely Amelie).
I do not have to ask anyone to link their blog, I’m sure that Amelie doesn’t mind that I linked her blog as well as her script, do you Amelie? Jem, do you mind that I linked you in my last post? No didn’t think so, free publicity for the win, eh. There is no law stating that I have to ask permission before linking to a site on my own website, perhaps if it were linking to illegal content or taking something away from you then you’d have a case, but a simple link to prove a point? Get out. Seriously? And you are one of the people redistributing it, you’re redistributing a script that is insecure and not your own, explain your logic to me.
And please explain how my site is irrelevant to yours, I linked you in an entry that was relevant to your website because it was discussing something that you happen to do on your website. This is why 12 year olds still have a bad name, you’ve probably grown up on the internet so why this, why now?
The biggest worry that I have now is that Dain is still redistributing Waks, and he says he’s planning on using it once he can make it secure. The fact that he’s potentially creating trouble for everyone who downloads and uses it doesn’t seem to faze him, and it should.
The good news is that I’ve gotten some hits from people who checked their referral programs because of my last blog. All Star Freak has put up a “BRB” notice, unfortunately no one else has bothered to remove the insecure script from their website. Looks like I’m definitely going to have to start emailing redistributors of scripts and making a general nuisance of myself.
