Saturday Link Round-Up 11

I actually had a lot more to post than just this, but after trying for a while (and obviously failing) I decided to only post what’d I’d already finished. Enjoy :)

Food

Cashew Gateau Cashew Gateau With Coffee Cardamom Mousse – For the cake I used pastry rings to cut out 4 rounds into the cake and split those minis in half. I used one half at the bottom of each ring, topped them with a simple coffee and cardamom mousse, (you might have extra mousse in which case I recommend you divide it into glasses and eat as is.

Chicken Supreme – Some of the recipes leave me with a big question mark, wondering who would really make them, but others sound like timeless classics. Like this chicken dish that I made. I changed up a few things, but what I ended up with was a delicious dinner that I would make over and over again. And when a recipe stands the test of time, you know you’ve found a winner!

Toasted Cheese Sandwiches Cookbook of the Month Recipe – Toasted Cheese Sandwiches – Ever since, I have been trying to find a grilled cheese that was that good. I haven’t succeeded yet. But this one came pretty close!! Grilled cheese sandwiches have been one of my cravings through this pregnancy. At the beginning, I think I ate one every day!! So when I came across this recipe, I knew I wanted to try it. I was hoping it would taste like that one in Bayeux, but no luck there. But I did find a recipe that I’ll definitely make again – especially through the rest of my pregnancy!!

Cure for Bacon Withdrawal: More Bacon – From the very first time I saw Michael Smith make this Potato Bacon Cheddar Tart I knew that I had to try it myself but for some reason it didn’t happen right away. The recipe stayed on my brain though, (Dad’s too) and every now and then we’d mention that Potato Bacon Tart we’d seen and inevitably how we should really make it soon.

Chocolate chip and almond cookies – These cookies, on the other hand, surprised me in a good way. I have always seen pecans or walnuts in choc chip cookies, but never almonds. That’s why I wanted to give this a try. The recipe makes a ton of cookies – which was good, since I intended to share them with a large group of people – and the combo chocolate/almonds really works.

Sewing

Fabric Beach Balls Fabric Beach Balls – I was inspired to make these colorful, fabric balls because they remind me of the the type of toy that children had in generations past. A perfect timeless, handmade gift, these multicolored balls will inspire hours of fun!

help! what sewing machine should i buy? a guest post by not martha – I have an old, old, old sewing machine and would like to get something that I’d use more without worrying about needles breaking, etc., just for some of the random house/craft projects and with the idea that someday I may make some clothes for the kids. (Just what they want — I know how much I hated my homemade clothes as a kid, but alas.) Any advice? –Sharon M.

Worn and Torn Edges Worn and Torn Edges – A while back I had posted a pack of worn edges on my portfolio site for people to download and use in their designs. 10 Handwritten fonts you can’t miss – This is a list of my preferred Handwritten fonts I often use in my design projects. I included a link to download each font apart and some suggest about how you can use them.

Windows Explorer Replacement Explorer++ – Windows Explorer Replacement Explorer++ tries to become what Notepad++ already has become, a fast efficient feature rich alternative to Windows Explorer. The portable and lightweight software program introduces several new features and a new layout that make working with folders and files more comfortable. It’s not a full blown Total Commander like suite though.

50+ pieces of Grosgrain Ribbon 50+ pieces of Grosgrain Ribbon – Freebie – Every so often, I have found a need for ribbon when designing. Sure I could make some ribbon in photoshop.. but I have about 10 drawers full of ribbon that never used.. back when I used to make hair bows for my daughter.

Eye Defender Reminds You To Take Breaks – It is not very healthy to work for hours starring on a computer monitor without taking breaks. Eye Defender was designed to prevent the Computer Vision Syndrome which can have all kinds of ill effects on the human body including eyestrain, blurred vision, delayed focusing, headaches, back and neck aches, dry and burning eyes, light sensitivity, distorted color vision, forehead heaviness, and sore eyes.

Firefox

How to Block Distracting Animated Favicons – If you’ve spent any time stumbling around the net, you’ve run across a site using an irritating animated favicon—a moving icon that shows up in the address bar, the site’s tab, and even the bookmarks toolbar in Firefox.

Give some color to Firefox with the addon AnyColor – The default Firefox look is shall we say… not very colorful. sure you can install some themes to fix this but what if the only thing you want is to change the color of Firefox itself? this is where AnyColor comes in. you can select from several presets or make your own look using custom colors, headers and footers.

Strata Human Theme Modernizes Firefox in Ubuntu – One of Firefox 3’s notable improvements was shipping with themes that matched the native operating system. In Ubuntu, that meant tiny, vaguely cartoonish orange arrows, which, while color-coordinated, was a disappointment to some.

CSS3 support in Firefox 3.1 – A first Alpha of Mozilla’s new browser is due for release shortly (probably tomorrow). Firefox 3 saw a lot of work go into speed, stability and the interface, but was slightly disappointing for front-end developers and saw CSS implementation overtaken by Safari and Opera.

Build Better Pages With Firebug – Ask web developers to name their desert island Firefox extensions (ignoring for now the improbability of having a laptop while stranded), and they’re bound to put Firebug at or near the top of their lists.

Inspiration

51 Stunning Movie and TV Posters – I have wanted to be a graphic designer since I got my first clipart program and dot matrix printer back in the day. Home for Sale New on the market in DC – A home came on the market last week in Washington, DC. Built in 1927, the real estate listing describes it as ‘Spanish Eclectic’. Code

5 Useful Coding Solutions For Designers and Developers – Often creative and truly remarkable design solutions remain unknown because we, designers, simply overlook them. Being busy with our own projects, we sometimes try to grasp the intuition behind (probably) complex and cluttered code of other designers to understand how they manage to implement particular design ideas. Wordpress

WordPress: Show latest comment(s) for each post on main page – Normally, we will put a recent comment widget on the sidebar of our blog.
