NaBloPoMo and Daily Tweets just for you Nov 10, 04:58

I’ve decided to sign up for NaBloPoMo 10 days late. I knew about it at the beginning of the month, but I was counting on my little blogging muse to kick in before deciding to blog every day. Unfortunately said muse is on vacation so I’ve resorted to actually joining the damn thing just to force myself to keep up with regular blogging.

I could have just succumbed to what more than just a few people have: Daily Tweets. I decided not to go that route because no one cares. Remember those “Currently Doing” things everyone had in their sidebar a while back (and some old fogies still do), where you’d be able to see what that person was reading, wearing, drinking, etc,? That’s essentially what Daily Tweets are. Boring, nonsense that no one cares about.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I certainly don’t want to know what you were doing at 11:45am this morning, I don’t think anyone does. I may not blog as often as I should, but at least when I do you aren’t forced to contend with a pitiful excuse for a blog… at least no more so than usual. I vow to never assault your senses with a little list of everything I did today. With that said you can check out my twitter account: twitter.com/babblative.

Why sign up if I dislike it so much? To see what the appeal, if any, was. I failed to find anything remotely appealing about the service, perhaps I might if my friends used Twitter, then I might see my way to sending them messages on it. At the very least it’s a way to keep in contact with people, a phone call is a better way, or better yet why not meet them for some quality face-to-face time? The idea that people are substituting blogs in favour of Daily Tweet’s is a slightly disturbing thought. How much lower can we go? How about one word a day blogging for a month? My word for this month: Cat.

So if you honestly want to know what I’m doing at 4:00am tomorrow be sure to check my twitter account. Because there’s nothing better in this world than boring people senseless. Or there would be if anyone wondering what I’ll be doing at 4:00am tomorrow had any sense. Ah c’mon, you know you want to know!

Oh and it seems that I’m not the only one annoyed by this trend: Daily Tweets: Not Good Blogging.

I think we sign up for things because we’re curious. All human beings are. And, it’s important to know what things are even if we’re not going to use it. I do for example have a Facebook account just because I think I ought to know what it is. I just don’t understand what’s so much fun about it.

Some of those services can also be used as promotion tools for websites which I try to explore. I hope I can keep my fingers away from signing up at Twitter though.

To be honest, I have never heard of NaBloPoMo before so I’m gonna check it out as soon as I’m finished with this comment.

I like seeing Twitter on the sidebar but I dislike when it is posted as an actual blog entry too, such as at jenn.nu. I have my Twitter in my sidebar, but I’d never allow it to be a blog post.

I really don’t like reading boring, daily updates, and Tweets are pretty much comprised of those. If someone posted only interesting Tweets, that would be great. But I really don’t care when you wake up, eat, go to the washroom, put on your socks, sleep, etc.

I hear this quite a bit regarding tweets and tiwtter. Although I use it for drunk texting, and have yet to hear anybody complain that I woke them up at 4 in the morning ;)

I just dropped in from NaBlo. Trying to visit a lot of bloggers, see some new sites, and make a few friends along the way.

I’m not sure I understand your complaint. If you don’t like to read that type of blog, just don’t revisit any sites that tweet.

Hi! I came over from NaBloPoMo. I’m challenging myself to comment on as many blogs as possible this month as well as post.

I really don’t understand the draw to the Twitter/Tweet thing either. I, like you, signed up for an account and have yet to actually use it for anything. The nosy part of me always looks at people’s twitter/tweet side bar to see what they’re up to before I catch it and reign it in. Though, it’s never anything good, either.

Happy Posting!

I struggle with this, too — of course I’m also on Twitter and a bunch of other things and I’m not sure I’ve quite made sense of it all. Or if I ever will. I think in some cases tweets can add another dimension to a person’s online relationships, but I think it only works as a supplement info source, not as a main useful stream. I think the most annoying thing about Twitter right now is that it seems to be turning into a chat room thanks to all of the Twitter utilities that have been created to make it “that much easier” to post as often as you’d like.

Hah you guys are far better people than I. I hate commenting on the blogs of people I don’t know well because I always feel like I’m bothering them with my inane ramblings. Probably far from the truth, but it still stops me.

Zee, I’m using it as a way to plug my sites because extra hits are good. Otherwise it’s completely useless though, I’m not using it for anything other than laughs.

Eve, it’s not as simple as all that because the people who are doing it are blogs that I enjoy reading. They usually have good posts that keep me entertained for a few minutes, this Daily Tweet crap is clogging up my web experience, though, because I get all excited thinking I have a new blog to read and it turns out to be a Daily Tweet. If they keep this up then unfortunately I’ll have to unsubscribe, but I hope they grow tired of this trend as quickly as I have.

Caryn, that’s actually a really good way of putting it, something I don’t think I managed to do :P I agree wholeheartedly with your whole comment.

K, I mentioned 4am because I imagined someone being interested enough in my sporadic twitter updates that they’d wake up at 4am just to see if I’ve posted and if so then what I’m doing. Of course that isn’t going to happen, there aren’t many people out there that desperate to stop boredom.

I twitter when I can remember to but in the beginning – it’s a little bit like internet heroin.
