If you’ve visited in the past hour you’ll probably have noticed that I changed the theme not once but twice! And to a premade no less. It was a poor attempt to see whether or not the main page loading issues still existed without my custom pages (they do, if you wanted to know). With the default(ish) theme it seemed a bit better, but the instant I applied a custom theme, Clean and Green, it went back to the old loading issues.
These past few days I have seriously considered switching to another blogging platform. Don’t get me wrong, I love Textpattern but the complaints about load time are getting more and more frequent and quite frankly I’m at a loss as to what I can do about it. Nothing I have tried thus far has worked and in spite of what they may say on the FAQ portion of the official Textpattern site, I can’t get it to load properly and it’s only the main page (and sometimes the comments bit too)!
I made a failed attempt at installing Moveable Type last night, after CHMODDING the files they disappeared completely so I gave up with that. Wordpress makes me quake in fear (as God as my witness I’m never going back to Wordpress) and all that seems to be left is Cutenews and Flatpress. Whilst Flatpress is passable Cutenews is simply out of the question, what would people think!?
Options? Not many, maybe someone out there has an answer though, maybe. Or maybe I’m just supposed to use Wordpress again, no matter how frustrated and angry it may make me at least it loads faster than Textpattern. The thing is though, I really don’t want to switch to a different platform. Textpattern is comfortable, not like an old sweater, more like a really awesome, expensive pair of shoes that fit you perfectly.
Wordpress is like that big baggy pair of pants that everyone has stashed in the back of their closet for their fat days. They don’t fit right, bag everywhere and make you look like you have a butt bigger than all outdoors. All in all, just a really bad decision.
I’ve toyed with redirecting everyone to a separate directory and use Symphony21, but with no import/export feature I’d be stuck using my Symphony21 install as an archive of whatever posts I made during that time period. I guess what it comes down to really is that I have itchy feet and a reason to move on, I don’t particularly want to but as time goes by I think I might have to. Which makes me rather e-sad because I’m quite close to hitting the 1 year mark on my Textpattern installation.
