Knitting can be fun!
I’m slowly teaching myself to knit /beams/. I’ve already taught myself to crochet, my mothers attempts at teaching me both knitting and crochet confused me horribly, and while I prefer the motions of crochet over the motions of knitting, I find that I prefer the outcome of knitting to that of crocheting (at least in most cases).
What have I made so far? Well I’ve gone as far as 20 rows of stocking stitch and then it just gets ripped out for whatever reason (dropped stitch, bad tension, I’ll rip anything out and just start over again). I’ve only got three balls of the scrap yarn I’m using to practice with, so I’m thinking a scarf or something equally as small because I don’t have that much yarn and any new yarn I buy is going towards the baby blanket I’m crocheting (and it’s the expensive stuff too).
I’m attempting some of the more intricate patterns, laces and cables, and loving the challenge of it. There is something really soothing about the repetition in knitting and crochet.
Generally I lift my nose at homemade things, particularly those that are being sold. The exception being those who are “experts” or “professionals” and can turn out amazing creations that are worthy of being sold in stores and not just at a craft show. Generally the crocheted and knitted things I’ve seen (as well as the sewn things) have loose yarns and shoddy workmanship that even I, queen of shoddy workmanship, can point out.
I don’t really understand why people think that their homemade creations are worth all kinds of money, and that they subpar quality will appeal to buyers. My work is worth nothing to anyone other than myself, and even then I only treasure it (usually) because of the work I put into it. I know that until I’ve been at it for years/took classes from a professional I’m not really any good.

Hi I'm Becky, often referred to as The Knitting Hillbilly and Pussybear, owner of this site and general nuisance. I'm a knitter, serial complainer, known whistle blower and I run the ever popular
My little sister taught herself how to knit and crochet too! She’s thinking about selling some of the stuff that she makes, but mostly she just makes things for her friends (presents for birthdays, etc.).
