Girl at the freak show Jun 8, 05:15

Erin’s site is not viewable in the least for most people, if you’re lucky enough to have 20/20 vision or a very small resolution then you can continue without too much fear. If you’re unfortunately wearing glasses, don’t care for bleeding eye sockets or have a large resolution then please use my stylish stylesheet erin.txt. It has been updated to work with her new layout.

If you use IE 6 or 7 then remove the Stylish coding (@namespace URL… to the first bracket before the styling as well as the very last bracket at the bottom of the file) and follow the instructions here.

Erin’s site has not been removed. However the blog entry where she criticizes people for speaking their minds is. Fortunately I’m a crafty little bugger and you can view it on this blog, if anyone wants I saved the entire page (including comments) because I figured she would do something like this. If you want to see it then either comment here or “send me an email”:http://babblative.com/site/contact.

When someone criticizes, oh say, your site it isn’t an attack on you. You aren’t that important, get off your high horse and join the unwashed masses (that would be me and the rest of the site owners who don’t believe they’re perfect). Case in point: This is a direct quote from Erin of girlattherockshow.net

the thing is, for years, nobody has complained about it. at all. to me, it’s just something people want to pick on because it’s not what they think it should be. i like my font how it is, and people have told me they liked it as well. i’m not going to please every single person that comes here regardless.

If I may link two instances where people complained about the font size, one of which contain some wonderful quotes from Erin showcasing her intelligence and the other displaying Erin’s lovely and mannerly attitude: I was banned.. and I feel so stupid

You would think that a forum of people telling Erin that her font size is illegible would be enough to convince her to change it, you’d be wrong if you thought that. Erin refused to believe, even though she claims to be legally blind, that there was anything at all wrong with her font size.

The main argument in the first thread linked was that it was Erin’s site, that since she paid for it she could do whatever she wanted. I agree with that to an extent, if someone wants to blog about their cats and how they like to meow that is their perogative. I can’t stop them from doing so and if I don’t like it I certainly don’t have to read it, but when there is an accessibility issue, as with Erin’s font size, the “but it’s my site” argument is no longer valid.

So Erin, in the spirit of pwning you I’m going to go over your blog and explain to you why you are wrong and everyone else on the face of the earth is right.

My site is on the list here. It’s the whole font thing again. I’m just really disturbed that people spend their time criticizing websites all the time.

I’ll admit the first thing I do when I sign online is check the internets for new sites to bash. I’m sorry but it just highers my self-esteem so much * tear *.

Even if my font was say, 12pt, there would be something else that people would complain about, because people are never satisfied. I think the web is full of too many elitists these days. I noticed how all these said elitists have a plain theme they probably downloaded somewhere and just put up, because if you use a default theme that shows no creativity, you have the authority to tell everyone else how to do their websites.

I know that if your font size were 12pt I’d be complaining about your writing. Hey wait! Maybe we’ve been wrong all this time guys, maybe Erin has just been saving us the trouble of having a stroke due to her inability to understand what a sentence is (and when to stop one, or is this because you’re legally blind, Erin?) and the fact she doesn’t know a paragraph from a parachute. Of course that would mean Erin would have to feel compassion for others and their situations and she would have to admit that, in some small way she is flawed. Yeah like that’s going to happen.

I am not an elitist because I have a simple design, I am an elitist because I am better than you and know it. There are plenty of websites that I read on a regular basis in spite of some minor annoyances I enjoy their sites and wouldn’t think of not enjoying them just because I don’t like one or two aspects. If you have good content then people will come regardless of the design, if you have crappy content and you like to scream harassment at anyone who walks by then people will ridicule.

My layout is simple, true nuff, but it’s also attractive (toot toot goes my horn), accessible, valid and like they say: 200 visitors a day can’t be wrong! It may not be the best layout on the world wide web, but by golly it’s mine and so it holds a special place in my heart. You see I don’t use premade themes, Internet Police being the sole exception, because I prefer to know what is going on with my site, using someone else’s grubby code makes me want to take a scalding hot shower and have a good cry.

I do to have the authority, it says so on IP (Respect My Authoritah), and since I know more than you do I have every right in the world to point out why your site sucks.

It’s really sad that the one girl on there is being harassed because of her font. It’s one thing to have an opinion on something, but to harass people like that? That doesn’t seem right to me.

If your definition of harass is two incidents that took place over a year ago and two people who, before this, had never heard of you then you’re stupider than I originally thought. You tried this with Kori when she posted about you banning her, she refuted your claims and when you figured out that you weren’t going to get any sympathy from anyone important on DMB you turned tail and ran. You. Have. Not. Been. Harassed. Not in the least, the only person who could even come close to harassing you is me and laughing at you in one thread over a year ago and in another thread this year does not constitute harassment. Even posting this blog two months after the last incident doesn’t make it harassing.

I’m not changing my font. I’m not going to change something because a few people with their head up their asses think I should. I can’t believe people that spend all this time and energy on something so trivial. It’s a website on the internet. Shouldn’t you focus your energy on something more important?

You’re right I should focus on something more important, something close to my heart. Like, oh I don’t know, accessibility on the web for everyone? Yeah that’s a pretty important issue, and if fighting one person means a few more might take notice and change their ways then something good has been done.

I most certainly don’t have my head up my ass, that position is all yours, and if you think that by wasting a few minutes laughing at someone else’s stupidity takes energy think again because it takes no energy whatsoever.

If you don’t want to change the font that’s fine, don’t change it. But don’t expect people to not mention it just because you have stated a few times that you don’t want to change it. The beauty of having a mind is that you can speak it, and no amount of blustering or accusations of harassment from you will ever change that.

If you can choose to not change your font then I can choose to mention it, so can anyone else who takes notice. If you want to do something that isn’t popular then you are going to have to accept the consequences of your actions. And until you do you’ll be an immature little girl who can’t accept that there are some people in the world who don’t like her and what she does.
