Don't like someone? Delete their comments! Aug 17, 19:06
Since Jenn decided to post the email on her website I’m going to include a copy here just in case:
For what it’s worth, your comments were deleted not because of the contents, but because you – Alex and Becky – are not welcome at my blog. It is obvious to me that you visit only to criticize and find information in an attempt to stir up drama elsewhere. Please do not comment again. If you do, the comments will be held for moderation, and then deleted. Jenn
That’s what Jenn decided to do when Alex and I commented on her website last night. It all happened on the entry Overreacting? where Jenn described how her little brother tends to waste food, which isn’t really a horrible thing at all, and decided that if he had to stay for the rest of the day she wouldn’t be feeding him. Why? Because somehow she’s incapable of doling out portions for a child (especially when that child was quite obviously never taught portion control). Alex and I commented saying that she should have chosen to control the amount of food on his plate, and not in a negative way, we both came home to an email from Jenn telling us that we were no longer welcome on her website and that our comments were deleted.
I understand completely that it’s her website and she can do whatever she wants with it, however, this smacks of ignorant redneck values to me and I can’t believe that two comments would be deleted solely because they were trying to start drama. To me deleting a comment that is polite, respectful and whose only fault is that it calls attention to the lesser qualities of someone is childish and above all foolish and now we’re no longer welcome on Jenn.nu, as if we ever really were, simply because we chose to respectfully disagree with something that Jenn had done. Let’s face facts here, we weren’t deleted because we tried to cause drama (at least that’s not the whole reason), we were actually right in that she didn’t have to let her brother go hungry all day because there was an acceptable solution. But here we are, both of us with emails from Jenn telling us to piss off and leave her blog alone or else.
The idea that we posted comments simply because we have a superiority complex and are “bored” is absurd, whatever happened to being concerned about the welfare of a child? I’m sure that if Jenn were to see something she disagreed with, such as a mother refusing to feed her own child for a day because the child couldn’t tell how much food they should put on her plate, she’d gather the troops and find out all the personal information she could so she could post it on the internet. But oh wait, she’s 23 (Alex is 21 by the way and I’m still technically a teenager) and so much more mature than anyone else (how that isn’t blatantly obvious I don’t know!). I may not have children, but whenever I babysat for anyone I always controlled the food, simply because children (most especially children who haven’t been taught otherwise) will slap a half a jar of mayonnaise on their sandwich and then complain that there’s too much mayo. It’s just common sense and you don’t need to have children to know that.
So, if anyone else disagrees with what Jenn did and feels the need to post a respectful comment then good for you, just prepare to be banned from her entire website because you disagree with her and dared to voice it. Jenn, if you wish to automatically moderate our comments and then delete them then more power to you. However, I like to believe that there are more people out there who disagree with you and sooner or later they’ll come out of the woodwork and post on your blog, I suppose your comment moderation will be super busy then? And finally I’d just like to say that in spite of your childish actions you are still more than welcome to post comments on my blog and whilst I can’t say that I’ll always agree with them, they won’t ever be deleted.
